The watermelons for Dirty Dancing needed to be exact replicas of the ones seen in the original film. The shape, size, weighting, and even the paint finish had to be absolutely perfect.
Three existing watermelons were used to make moulds, then a batch of three watermelons was made for the London version of the show, and shortly afterwards I worked on a second batch for the Netherlands. After a while, all the watermelons began to look they same, but, of course, they all ended up in their right places.
